Bonsall Chamber of Commerce - October 2007 Newsletter
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Hello Everyone!
Our Eighth Annual Sheriffs Appreciation Day turned well.
Lt. Alex Dominguez,
the new Commander of the Fallbrook Sheriff's Substation, was quite
complimentary that the community recognizes the fact that our law enforcement
folks are important to us. The Sheriffs Senior Volunteer Patrol was honored
again and is always helpful in our community. This year we included in our
awards the newly established CHP substation which is currently located in the
River Village Properties. I personally thanked them for ticketing the people
who ignore the "No Right Turn On Red" on weekdays during the 6 to 9 commuting
hours. The numerous honorees are picked out by their supervisors and short bios
are written up and read during each award. The accomplishments of these
officers are uniformly amazing.
The October 11th Sundowner will have a Halloween theme with costumes and
prizes.
Susie and Rick Birchall
will have a great time with this theme. After seeing
Susie's
decorated hat at the August Sundowner I can hardly wait to see her Halloween
costume!
The
Bonsall Country Festival
is just around the corner. The basic permit has been filed, a few more forms
to go, including all the insurance forms and "OK's" by the various county
departments and we are set to have a great time. The event starts at 10am and
ends at 3pm. It is in the River Village in front of the Daniels Apple Market.
Watch for the signs and bring the kids for good clean family fun which means no
alcohol. And, hopefully, there will be no rain on the 20th!
The Honorary Mayor and the 2008 Bonsall Dude will be announced along with all
the same and more community participation we had last year. Anyone wanting to
be involved setting up and taking down' should contact Tony Flores at
more2loan@yahoo.com.

BONSALL DUDE CONTEST
by Leigh Ann Howard, President
This year the Bonsall Dude contest has joined forces with the Bonsall Unified
School system in embracing the Six Pillars of Character. The new
superintendent of schools,
Jeff Felix,
brought this framework into the Bonsall School system this past year and the
Bonsall Chamber applauds his action. This is exactly what we were trying to do
last year when we developed the Bonsall Dude contest. The six basic values
that are stressed in this framework are: trustworthiness, respect,
responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. This is not at all
religiously or politically directed. This is strictly designed to help our
young people (and in this case our young men) develop good character traits as
they grow up and become adult members of any community. With this strong
foundation we hope our young folks can avoid the temptations they will face
from drugs and gangs, among other things, when they leave the Bonsall school
system.
So, some of the essay questions have been changed just a bit to more closely
align our contest with the values we are looking for in our Bonsall Dude. The
applications are already in the hands of the leaders at the Norman Sullivan
School. The essays have to be turned in to us by Oct 5th and the finalists
will be invited to the semi formal luncheon at the Vista Valley Country Club on
Oct 13th.
We are also looking for donations to this contest so we may monetarily award
our new Bonsall Dude. Nancy Holt (our Bonsall office manager) and I will be
coming around with our donation requests very soon!
