Bonsall Chamber of Commerce - July 2007 Newsletter
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Hello Everyone!
The Bonsall Chamber's June Sundowner was held at
Rawhide Ranch,
off West Lilac Road in Bonsall. Hosts
Tom and Val Ewan
always put on a good show for us and Chef
Stuart Cumming
provides the best in great cuisine.
The Desert Guns
folks were entertaining and we hope they will be back for our Bonsall Country
Festival on Oct 20th. During the meeting, we could see the summer counselors
riding the school horses around a large arena in preparation for the 200 kids
coming in the following week.
Tom Ewan
gave our group an enjoyable tour of the facility.
Mary Jane Poulter
reported on the success of the Third Annual Bonsall Chamber of Commerce golf
tournament on May 11th. She introduced and presented all the volunteers with
tokens of our appreciations. This is our one main fundraiser each year and our
success depends on the success of this tournament. A big “thank you” to all
involved!
Georgia Thompson
has become our permanent “Raffle Caller”. No one better at this volunteer job
than
Georgia!
She knows everyone and spends time talking about the businesses donating the
door prizes. She is so good at this job that the
California Thoroughbred Farm Managers Association
asks her to be the “official raffle caller” at their annual potluck at the
Vessels Stallion Farm. This event will take place on Sunday, July 15th this
year and this is your official invitation,
Georgia!
The horse loving public is invited so please contact me if you wish to attend.
Jeff Felix,
Bonsall School Superintendent, came by our Sundowner, but was not able to stay
for the meeting. He seems very interested in improving our present school
system. Hopefully, in the short term, we can help him locate funding to move
and restore the old school house. And long term, have our own Bonsall High
School! We are all pleased that
Jeff
has become involved in our community. Obviously this job of school
superintendent is more than a “9 to 5” sort of situation for
Jeff Felix!
Speaking of schools, several of our Bonsall Chamber Board members participated
in
the Sullivan Middle School
Portfolio Day this past month. This annual event is set up to allow the
students to present their year's worth of work in various classes to a person
in the business community. Our Chamber business people acting as interviewers
were
Cory Carrier
(Ace Mobile Music),
Tony Flores
(Isagenix ),
Andrea Aston
(attorney- Morrison Law),
Una Breadmore
(River Village Properties),
Laura Rosier
(Human Resources, SLRD TB TC), and
Suzann Strong
(horse trainer and horse vanning service). What an excellent program, both
for the kids involved, and for our community! This is the third year I have
participated as an interviewer and I highly recommend it, especially for anyone
who has had little or no contact with a school or children. I think it becomes
very plain to us how well our school system is doing instilling good work
habits and basic education in our kids. My one wish would be that a penmanship
class would be added somewhere along the line!
Spring has sprung and many of us are getting into some “serious” gardening! I
have now attended two 'garden tours' in Fallbrook. One put on by the
AAUW (American Association of University Women)
Fallbrook Branch and one by the
Fallbrook Garden Club.
It is so inspiring to drive around the countryside and see what interesting
landscaping ideas folks put in place around their homes. One outstanding home
in Fallbrook actually had author
Debra Lee Baldwin
(“Designing With Succulents”) signing and selling her book! (I bought the
book!) Being so enthralled by the tours, I joined the
Fallbrook Garden Club.
Maybe we Bonsall folks can team up with this group and have a Bonsall Garden
Tour one of these days!
Lastly, it is fire season and the
North County Fire Protection District
has sent out informative documents that will help us reduce the risk of fire
on our property. We all need to pay close attention to this information. Also
Jim Beebe's group, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
is meeting regularly in an effort to get us all better prepared for disasters.
We had a major fire in the San Luis Rey River last weekend and the horse
evacuation group was on standby. Luckily the horses at the east end of the
river did not have to be moved but the disaster preparedness group had the
situation under control. Anyone wanting to help with the horse evacuation
project should contact
Una Breadmore
at
River Village Properties.
