Bonsall Chamber of Commerce - May 2007 Newsletter
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Hello Everyone!
The joint Fallbrook Bonsall Sundowner at
Rio Rico's
on April 18th was packed. Packed with good food, lots of smiling community
members and great networking opportunities!
Rio Rico's
owner,
Cynthia DeCindis,
was the perfect hostess: gracious and lovely. The Fallbrook group announced
award winners for their first annual Avocado Art contest and the work was
displayed. Everyone was looking forward to the festival the following weekend.
The Avocado Festival was also packed with happy people. We parked at the
Airport and rode the shuttle to town. Our main objective was to taste the
Avocado Ice Cream, which we did finally find and sample. Quite creamy and good!
One of the most noticeable things in our community lately is the presence of
the CHP at the intersection of HWY 76 and Mission. The sign on the pole says
“No right turn on red between 6am – 9am M – F”. Early in the morning people
are rushing to get to work. They either can't read the sign or are simply
ignoring it. There have been several accidents, including some deaths, at this
intersection. Finally the CHRB is watching and this illegal turning has
shopped, at least while the officers are present. Thank you, CHRB!
Golfers:
our Annual Bonsall Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament is coming up soon:
May 11. It's time to sign up and get out there and practice. We hope you have
noticed our tournament is one of the more affordable in the area!

Girl of the Year Chairman - are getting ready for the Awards Tea
The Bonsall Woman's Club 13th Annual Girl of the Year Awards Tea
is scheduled for May 17th at 3:00 p.m. at the Bonsall Community Center. They
will be honoring 23 outstanding girls and revealing the names of the 4 winning
Girls of the Year for 2007
representing the following schools: Bonsall Elementary, Bonsall West,
Sullivan Middle School and Vivian Banks Charter School.
Under the direction of
Pat Aspray,
each of the candidates participated in community projects. Together they
collected nearly 35 pounds of Pop Tabs for Ronald McDonald House. They made 40
Blue Bears for the Firemen to take to children in trauma, baked and donated
over 50 dozen cookies for the Marines at Camp Pendleton along with 60 handmade
valentines. And they filled over three 30 gallon size plastic bags with socks
for the homeless at Brother Benno;s.
This was a learning experience for many of the candidates. They worked side by
side with many of the club members aiding those in need.
Parents, sponsors, teachers and principals have all been invited to celebrate
the accomplishments of the candidates.

HONORARY MAYOR OF BONSALL
Hello All,
First of all, I would like to thank everyone that contributed food and monetary
donations to the Easter Food Drive. And thank you to
Gloria Mattson
for providing us with the names of the military families that we delivered
food and Easter Baskets to.
Gloria
began helping military families most in need through her church, The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and is now our primary liaison between the
Community and the families at Camp Pendleton. I would also like to thank
Mary Jane Poulter
for working with
Angel McCormick
of
“Dream on Foundation”
to acquire the Easter Baskets. We appreciated their generosity.
Food Drive containers were located at
Daniel's Apple Market
and
Prudential California Realty/ Bonsall.
Thank you for your help!
The “Paws in the Park” Dog Show (benefiting the
Fallbrook Healthcare Foundation
) asked me to participate handing out ribbons to the winning dogs, and the
Honorary Mayor of Fallbrook,
Rhonda Reinke
and I, enjoyed doing just that! I particularly liked the “Fastest tail wagger”
What a cute event! If you are a dog lover (or even if you are not!) be sure and
check it out next year. It was a lot of fun!
I am very happy to be a participant at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the
grand re-opening of the
Ultra-Star River Village Cinema
located in Bonsall. A VIP Party on Thursday, May 3rd should be quite an
event, with a tour and great food from
Rio Rico Restaurant.
We are able to get a “sneak peek” at the new wonderful décor and concession
stand. Be sure and visit from May 4th through the 10th for special showings.
You will enjoy it!
If you need me to participate in any of your events, please give me a call!
Jill Marie Thorburn (760) 535-2998
